I'm a big fan of building with alternative material and love Earthships.Don't know if anyone is aware of this concept but it's something I'd really like to do.It involves building using basically junk. The only thing about most eco buildings unless most material is wood is that if your using cement and concrete then it's not really that eco-friendly.
Earthships equate themselves out over time, using all waste from the home and recycling it.
I've built a sauna using the glass bottles and it looks amazing.
I'm not sure if this would be a good building for really cold enviroments as concrete and mortar will not stand up to a lot of freezing,it will if you repair it.
I've visited an earthship in Fife in Scotland and currently there are plans for one in Glasgow which I hope I can be involved with.
I'd love to see if there is anyone here with any eco buildings near them.I know Brighton has an earthship so maybe Ramon can tell me if he has seen it.
An earthship project. (http://www.earthpower1.com/EarthshipIndex.html)

I live in an earthshop in Brighton and have a second job as a low emission carbon footprint . People try to be rude and say my earthshop is just a shop doorway but they are simply not being eco friendly . You have all met the type .Use Banks and eat calabrese .
I also built a sauna from throwaway materials but although I went for the biggest possible lemonade bottle , I still cannot clamber inside . I call it my future sauna and for the moment use it as a hot water bottle underneath the newspaper wrapping .
Peace my Eco brothers and sisters .

in the north caucaus they use mud bricks to construct individual houses. i don't know if i used the right word "mud" maybe there is a special term, i will look for it.

I build things from wood and many times I gather the scrap being thrown away at construction sites. I make planter boxes, garden borders, trellis and fence using wood and also wood scraps. It is amazing what is thrown away at commercial building sites that is worth a lot of money if you had to buy this stuff. These contractors are building buildings and houses so it is not uncommon to find whole sheets of plywood, 3 ft 2x4's and other things that can be utilized on smaller scale projects. I am not so sure that I would want tires in my yard but some thing I guess would look nice if constructed properly.

It would be nice if we could make an Eco-building out of American politicians and bankers, but I don't think we could ever get rid of the smell.

Here they use ply to fence off entrances to building sites, apartments and shops when they are doing construction work,8x4's ,like this.

well many times I've took the sheets and used them to line walls in cabins and chalets, they look very good with a dark stain on then.If you put a groove on them it looks amazing, this was the only pic i could find of that.

If you use some beading on it too you can get it to look like panelled walls or you can use beading to make designs such as diamonds on it.
This is a very good photo of ply used as panels.

Where i lived they used to make walls of dry stone as fences so, they had only to catch the stones from the soil. Some are very old, many centuries!
