I was looking at a couple of major phone companies in Ukraine hoping to get a price for two mobile phones when I noticed all the phones on both sites have latin (English) keypads, no cyrillic.
I couldn't understand this as this is a Ukraine website.
Can anyone explain this ?
Also, if I take my phone to Kiev and put in a sim card over there does the menu then come up in Ukrainian language ?
Appreciate any help with this.

I have several sim card from european countries and never had any problem.
Usually is the best choice to call inside the country and even to international calls.
Get the best prices and feel free to use it in your phoine. In english, of course.
PS: Only one problem. If you need info or help, most phone services are in the original language

First of all, you can only use a local SIM card if your phone is not locked to a specific provider. Most phones in the U.S. are locked to the provider with whom you have a contract. I had a contract with T-Mobile, and I was never able to use my MTC card in that phone.
By contrast, most phones here are independent and not locked. When I brought my local phone back to the U.S., I could put my T-Mobile SIM into that phone and use it just fine.
I think the software that determines what languages you can use and so forth is in the phone, not in the SIM. If my T-Mobile phone was unlocked, I could use it here, but I wouldn't be able to write SMS in Russian because the phone itself doesn't support this. I could be wrong about this, but I think this is how it works.
I will have the opposite situation this summer when I travel to the U.S. I will be looking for a pay-as-you-go SIM card (local Colorado number) that I can put into my Ukrainian phone to use there.

Thanks for your help guys.
I'm going to buy the phones that I want when I'm in Kiev, they are gifts for two young girls.
And I'll buy a sim card for my own phone.

They're only ten years of age but I first met them when they were both 8 and I have a lot of affection for them.
I managed to buy two cameras here for them and put Ukraine language into them so I'm sure they will like these and have no problems with using them but phones are a different matter.

Good for you Jimbo, it's the sort of thing I would do, bit like me and marriage, I would rather marry a friend, than a quick whirlwind romance :)))

I thought for sure that he would be giving away Kate and Wills at the Royal Wedding. After all, he is the official Queen of England.
