It has been widely known unofficially that new sample testing procedures could isolate CERA , the new version of EPO , the substance which increases the number of oxygen carrying red blood cells . A must for a Sports Person determined to win at all costs .
Now the IOC have been convinced of the efficacy and accuracy of the new methodology and will have 5000 samples taken at the Olympics officially tested .
WOW !
I predict the Chinese Gold Medal tally could drop significantly .
I did not like what I saw from the outset in the Swimming Pool and commented as such in the thread we had .
If there are a number of test failures it will be interesting to see whether the IOC will have the nerve to give the full truth .
If not , we might hear a lot about the possibility of samples having deteriorated , been swapped , mislabelled or suddenly lost .
My guess is that this doping technique was widely used across many countries and a range of disciplines .

There is Epo and now Cera, but what about Nike Air?
I agree, not in the swimming pool.

They do . In fact Powell was moaning that they were hounded in pre test and at the games .
Romantically I love the Jamaicans monopolising the sprints but statistically what happened -- Men and Women-- was odd .
I hope they were not using CERA , particularly Mr Cool ( Bolt)

I think there will be a lot of medals taken back but then as you said it might be that bad that they'll want to cover it up.

"At the Beijing Games, 6 of the 10,500 competing athletes were disqualified for failing doping tests: the Ukrainian heptathlete Lyudmila Blonska; the Ukrainian weightlifter Igor Razoronov; the Greek hurdler Fani Halkia; the North Korean shooter Kim Jong Su; the Spanish cyclist Isabel Moreno; and the Vietnamese gymnast Thi Ngan Thuong Do.
Three others still have open doping cases. The hammer throwers Vadim Deviatovskiy and Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus have until Oct. 17 to provide the I.O.C. disciplinary commission with more information regarding the adverse analytical findings of their doping tests.
The commission is close to announcing a decision on the doping case of Poland’s Adam Seroczynski, an athlete in men’s kayak."
“Some people were cynical at the end of the Olympics, saying out of 5,000 tests there were only nine positives, how could that be?” said Ayotte, one of the antidoping experts overseeing the doping tests in Beijing. “But the testing is not over. The athletes who doped should not sit back and say: ‘Oh, I was never caught. I’m O.K.’ No, they should still be worried.”

I totally agree - the IOC can't afford to have either a lot of failed tests or - worse for them - a high profile athlete failing a test. They will always "find" a few so that they can claim to be anti-doping when in reality they haven't got the baws to sort the problem out. If they are truly against drugs in sport why haven't they introduced blood testing? Why rely on inefficient urine tests?
I say find the cheats and ban them for life, we don't need or want them.

And about a dozen were slung out at pre-test before the Olympics --- mostly Russian as I recall .
But the purpose of this Post is to advise you that I do not want another of your crappy medal tables .
We will use the Population factored method , thank you , to put Team GB where it belongs --- at the top .

Ok, I will let Team GB believe that it came out on top in the Olympics using the population factored method as to not take away from the people of god's garden. At least until the 2012 London Olympics when GB might really come out on top due to home advantage. :p
