I have always wondered why high society catwalks have for decades been trodden by tall lanky wafer-thin girls, some barely old enough to vote. Are they the most practical type of cloths horse, or do the proprietors simply feel that these undernourished individuals look more attractive than curvy women!
I don't know any red-blooded male who would instinctively chose one of these girls as the most attractive. Is it the fashion industry itself which defines "attractive"? Is there any man in GG who finds the classical skinny model attractive?
I am going to generalise here, and thus open myself to condemnation.
The fashion industry has a large number of gays in it. This might provide a clue as to why the models have figures which reflect the look of the average adolescent teenage boy who hasn't started "filling out" yet. Yup, the young pretty boy look (figure-wise anyway) has been in for decades. However, times are a changing!
The Daily Telegraph
"The hourglass figure epitomised by Marilyn Monroe is back in vogue as curvy celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Nigella Lawson boost demand for clothes that show off women's figures.
After years of catwalks and magazines dominated by the stick thin "waif" look, curves are back in fashion with demand for "shape wear" clothes - which show off a woman's busts and thighs -more than trebling.
Fuller figured pop stars like Duffy, Hollywood actresses Scarlett Johansson and Salma Hayek and television chef Nigella Lawson have been credited with fuelling the trend back towards the classic hourglass figure.
High Street store Debenhams reported demand for "shape wear" was up 225 per cent last year,
Debenhams spokeswoman Michelle Dowdall said: "It looks like big busts, big hips and narrow waists are on their way back."
