Congratulations to the Russian Junior team. It was a great accomplishment, and they are champions.

However....

If what I read today is true, it is very unfortunate that this proud accomplishment was terribly marred by the team's behavior after the final game. The players are reported to have been kicked off their flight at the Buffalo, New York, airport because they were highly intoxicated. Translation: they were completely drunk.

Reportedly, the team members were drunk and extremely unruly in the airport terminal; therefore, Delta Airline officials refused to let them board the plane. Police had to be called to deal with the situation. Delta said that they would rebook the passengers on a future flight.

The team's troubles may not be over yet, however. The legal drinking age in New York (and other U.S. states) is 21, and these players are around 18 years of age. Individual players, as well as coaches and others who are responsible for them, may be facing legal troubles for this action.

It's a very unfortunate situation and does not present their country well as tournament champions or as guests in another country. I hope they will offer some public and very genuine apologies.

it was a great comeback for the Russian juniors. I missed the game, was elsewhere but congrats to them. Canada has been in the final 10 years in a row, not sure if that is a record or not. Going into the tournament the Canadian press didn't think they had a chance to make it that far. Nonetheless, I have to admire the Ruskies for coming back like they did

How sad... The Russian Internet is already boiling from hot discussions of this incident and there are quite many people trying to justify the youngsters... But of course it leaves a very unpleasant taste... It is very Russian - to do something great, but to spoil everything at the very end...

And the pictures of them drinking champaign right from the bottles - drunk young faces... I know many people in Moscow sponsoring the Russia junior team (including my Canadian boss) - I just can imagine how upset they might be... Ok, at least it will not be me bringing bad news...

Maybe the very negative reaction to their behavior - in the U.S. and at home - will serve as a lesson to these young guys and help to make them better men in the future.

Although I don't condone coaches allowing teenagers to drink, kids will be kids and they should have boarded a plane the next day

yes, it is the matter of management first of all - the adults let them do it - very stupidly. Also, Delta has a blacklist and their rules are quite severe - it is possible our members will not be allowed to fly with Delta for 5 years

Ouch, that will hurt them, and make it harder, on them.
Seems like the coaches made a bad call on that one.
I am sure it was a sobering expiriance for all involved.
To bad their victory was marred by this wrong bad move on their part.

Well, I have to say that the other countries do not hear our apologies quite often - they want more and more and more and from different people. Sorry for off-top. But we will see what will happen the day after tomorrow, when they are back.

Come on! Let's fight! This site has obviously lack of fights! :viannen_12:
(this is the only icon I have -it expresses all).
On the other hand, on the eve of Christmas (which has already turned into Christmas somwhow...) I have to admit - yes, we are very bad about public apologies, very bad!
And I apologize for that in font of all of you! Let be now peace and happiness!

(Of course now somebody will tell that they do not want my apologies, and wanted somebody's else, etc. And it will start from the beginning... Oh, my God!) Just Kidding - time to have some wine.
