I just read a brief article on FoxSports.com about Barry Sanders, the great running back of the Detroit Lions. It reminded me of what a truly special player he was... not to mention a first-class person.

I only saw him a handful of times on television, but what a treat it was to watch him play! I don't think anyone could change direction and completely outrun a defense like he could. And to would-be tacklers, he was like a magician: now you see him, now you don't.

What a shame that Sanders never had a chance to play for a championship. Most people said that he retired too early, and perhaps he did. But if there was ever a player who deserved the chance to play in a Super Bowl - and who was essentially shortchanged in that regard - he was it.


I wonder how he would have looked in ORANGE?

Barry is my favorite of all time. The guy had so much class on and off the field. Never once would you see him dancing in the endzone, or even spiking the ball after a touchdown. He always handed the ball to the zebra after a score.

I had the privilege of meeting him once at a local sports bar, and he was very polite to his fans. The NFL needs more guys like him.

He was fun to watch on the field for sure. We called him the human highlight film. He'd lose 3 yards... Lose 4 yards... Then run for 80!
Never seen a more exciting playmaker.

Had he not retired so early, he would have shattered the career rushing record.

Actually, that was the thrust of the article. It was comparing Sanders with the "look at me" idiots that dominate the game now. When he scored a touchdown, he was doing his job... no big deal. When these clowns score, they have to do back flips, pirouettes and all other manner of antics.

He was class. They are idiots.

On the other hand, I've seen other guys get injured trying to tackle him.
