View Full Version : Xenophobia
Xenophobia is an irrational, deep-rooted fear of or antipathy towards foreigners.
How many women that have imigrated to the USA find that they lose a job interview simply because they have a Russian accent? Are you told you can not speak English even though your English is better than most Americans?
Interesting. Maybe my wife is parinoid. Seems that she is the only one that has experienced this?

Well, I had perfect resume once and I was the only one for the certain position; I was not taken and the job was readvertised...I found out later that they didn't want anyone with the accent...I have even letter of apology from them about unfairly treatment..Good luck to your wife, hope she'll find good employer !

Yankee, one thing I have learned this year, western women, seem to feel threatened by EE women.
To gather info in a thread Alenika started I ask a lot of folk how they feel about EE folk moving to US? most men seem to not care, but women seem to have defined opinion, (negative) on this issue. The only reasons I have heard were: rude, aggressive, "snooty". Ask the one Russian lady I know here and she said only on occasion does she encounter negative attitude, But mostly with women.
Now this is a very small sampling, and far from scientific.
As an American, I say If she is being discriminated against, raise holy hell about it, because this is not fair, not right, and a crime, against her. We have to stamp this kinda crap out.

the tricky thing is that now they will never openly say what they mean...they will tell oh,not enough qualifications or something like that...they are getting smart ))

Where I have lived mainly in the Channel Islands, the East Europeans have always been viewed in a very positive light by all. My long distant ex-wife was literally having jobs thrown at her in the finance sector, and that without any former experience in the field.
Could be a localised issue in various parts of the planet.
