I just read this in the Rocky Mountain News (Denver)...

2012 Olympics Rule: Toilets May Not Face Toward Mecca

Olympic organizers issued detailed design rules for the 2012 London games today, including a mandate that toilets in the Olympic park do not face the holy Islamic city of Mecca.

Members of the Olympic Delivery Authority said they wanted the Olympic and Paralympic games to be inclusive of people with different faiths and individuals with disabilities. Other design requirements include wide paths with smooth surfaces and seats at regular intervals.

"The Olympic Park will be at the heart of the celebrations and people of all cultures, faiths and ages and disabled people will find London 2012's Olympic Park welcoming and easy to use," authority chairman John Armitt said.

The organizers sought input from a range of communities before coming up with the design requirements.

Muslims face Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, when they pray and generally do not believe they should do the same when using the toilet.


This can only mean that the world has finally gone completely insane and must be destroyed immediately by a killer asteroid.

calm down and think about what you are saying....this is not about 'forcing' god on anyone

this is about being considerate, you are considerate everyday and the people around you are considerate of you, car manufacturers are considerate of tall and short people thats why they make adjustable seats....you are considerate when you wait in line at the doughnut shop....the governement is considerate when they make the laws and regulations that force public buildings to have access ramps for wheelchairs and elevators for those who can't climb stairs....

if you are not considerate of one group why be considerate of another....with your logic there would be no Special Olympics, after all that is consideration for the diabled

If you are facing Mecca and you turn 180 degrees you are still facing Mecca in the other direction on Great Circle, so I don't see what is gained by turning toilets around

You will be still S&*%g in one direction and P$^^g in the other and BOTH will face Mecca.

However to face or not face Mecca from London I think the toilets would have to be orientated in a South Eastern Direction?

So if they were to orientated in a strict East/West direction, one would be

S&*%g and/or P$^^g in the direction from London of

France and Germany and in the other direction America

Which should please some folks here and not offend any Muslims

Maybe we could just move London to Mecca for the Olympic period. It's called a democratic socialists union (DSU) initiative. Kind of kills two birds with one stone. 1. Spending other people's tax money big time, to the point of national bankruptcy. 2. It won't matter which way the toilets face...................
