Let me explain this....the queen mother had married the future king...so she was queen but when he died she does not have the right to remain as queen so it passed to her daughter..princess Elizabeth who became the queen...so she became the queen mother...understand now?

It does not surprise me to see the racist faction miss out totally on the concept of a modern monarchy .
It is a sophisticated concept and there are many over here who are not even racist who never see further than its very unsavoury History and alleged cost .
The fact that it cements a society and even provides a good few with the Heros, Heroines Princes and Princesses that we all love deep down , is rarely discussed
It not only binds society now in width and perspective , it also provides continuity for a nation's identity --- however distasteful many past episodes now seem .
Many outsiders cannot see the use of an institution that has no effective power or legislative function .
I recommend them to the Family concept and ask them to think what functions Elders serve , and , at the individual level , the purpose of the family head and its crowning glory -- could be a great grandmother , could be just the right head person for a particular group of generations who need binding together .
