As I think I mentioned in a thread on the good old LL forum, what if....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7626471.stm

The odds are that the victor of the American presidential election on 4 November will secure a clean-cut victory in the electoral college - an absolute majority of 270 votes or more.
But that isn't a guaranteed result. The closer the election gets - and right now the polls have it very tight indeed - the greater the chance that a tie of 269 to 269 will occur.

Then America is likely to get its first female President, at least until the deadlock is broken. No, she won't be named Hillary Clinton, nor will the acting chief be Sarah Palin. Next-in-line will be the Speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi.

What if...

I agree, but what if?

Well, if Obama wins this coming election, she would have to wait until 2016 to run. If McCain wins, she would still have to beat out Clinton in the primaries in the next election. I'm sure it's actually what the Clinton's are hoping for, and they will still have a large number of supporters. Now it's hard to say if Pelosi can generate enough support over the next four years to overcome the popularity that Hilary had. Only time, and her performance in the next few years will tell.

As far as the what if, in my opinion from what I've seen so far, her presidency would be as lackluster as her performance thus far.

Your saying that if Obama and McCain tie then the speaker of the house become president until it is resolved?

Read the link all the way through. If neither Obama nor McCain wins the required 270 electoral votes, then we get very deep into the constitution.

Consider the consequences as the BBC suggests. We are a society divided. That division can result in Nancy Pelosi being, at the least for a time, President of the United States - without having the luxury to thoughtfully construct an administration (other than in her wet dreams). Combine the idea of the election in serious question with the current state of affairs - the world economy, oil, Iran, Iraq, Russia, Pakistan, Israel, Korea, Venezuela, Cuba...

Say what you will about Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, but Nancy Pelosi scares me to death. That woman will sway in whatever direction the slightest nuclear wind blows.

Read your constitution before going to the polls.

That is one of the scariest things I have read in recent memory. Even Obama would be better than Pelosi.

I should have read the article. All I saw was Pelosi as president, and answered too quickly. Let's hope it never comes to this and we have a clear winner in the election, no matter who it is.

This has nothing to do with Pelosi being elected President. It is about the constitution and the potential that she may become President by default in the event the election cannot be decided before January 20.

If you think the idea of her sitting behind the desk in the oval office is laughable I suggest you read both of the links I provided.

I feel a little foolish after answering the thread yesterday without reading the article in the link you provided, and I wish to appoligize for this, huney.:o

Now that I have read it, I don't think Pelosi would be able to make too many decisions or even put a cabinet in place before there was some sort of resolution. Thank God!

I saw Clinton and Gore when they made their bus tour

They came through western Ky rigfht past a roadside
nursery I was running then.

BOTH of them were clearly visible in the front bubble of
the excursion bus

I remember thinking they must not pay attention
to the Secret Service, because I just can't believe
they would want both the President and Vice President
together and vulnerable like that.

One Car bomb and Newt Gingrich is President

Then I thought what Terrorist would be insane
enought to want that to happen?

Gore and Clinton are probably safe as babies in their crib.
