Stupid in America
Why your kids are probably dumber than Belgians.

For "Stupid in America," a special report ABC will air Friday, we gave identical tests to high school students in New Jersey and in Belgium. The Belgian kids cleaned the American kids' clocks. The Belgian kids called the American students "stupid."
We didn't pick smart kids to test in Europe and dumb kids in the United States. The American students attend an above-average school in New Jersey, and New Jersey's kids have test scores that are above average for America.
The American boy who got the highest score told me: "I'm shocked, 'cause it just shows how advanced they are compared to us."
And I doubt that thoose insulting poeple becaus they arent american will reflect and begin to behave , pitty but knowing what is in their skull is mostly empty and and echo's.

As Judge Judy nearly says ,
"We are more clever on our worst possible day than you could ever be on your best day and with God helping you "
What the results would have been if they had used Canadians is something too awful to really think about .
In the recent inter species Master Mind , the Canadians just edged out the Chimps but were hammered by the Rooks .
For any Canadians grappling with this scientific report , the reference to Rooks has nothing to do with Chess pieces .

Lavuun, you probably will not find too many Americans who would argue with you about this. One of the biggest issues in the United States over the past several decades has been the serious decline in the quality of education in public schools. Americans hear reports all the time about how American kids are falling behind children from other countries, especially in math and science.
American schools have suffered primarily due to politics and the protection of poor teachers by their unions. Private schools and public school systems that have managed to refocus on providing solid education in the basics still seem to be turning out intelligent, well-educated kids.
Of course, there are other problem affecting how well kids learn: television, movies, the Internet, the breakdown of traditional family structure... and the list could go on.

Although it pains me to say it British kids are probably almost as dumb as the septics these days.

I agree with Paul and would add that the schools have lost the art of teaching students how to learn and to think. IMO, strong reading skills and critical thinking combined with a good measure of self-discipline could overcome any other shortcomings in our schools.

Septics are the those with an over-abundance of toxins in the bloodstream. Normally the condition can be controlled through consumption of vast quantities of alcohol.

There is truth to what all are saying and i might add that learning starts at home from the parents.
What I see as the biggest downfall of children learning is to be placed on the parents.
With one parents families on the grow and two parents working the children seem to get the raw end of the deal.
I think parents tend to depend to much on the schools and don't do their part.
They use the school system as a day care more than anything.
School of course needs some major improvements also.

The error is in thinking that you can teach a subject matter to anyone. I had a professor once who made a very profound (to me at least) statement. He stated "I cannot teach you anything, I can only show you how to learn, you have to teach yourself."
We do not directly teach children how to learn, other than rote, and we do not encourage any inquisitiveness and desire to know. I think that this is why home schooling is producing better and more knowledgeable students than the school system. So it is not a problem with the raw material, just with the errant way they are educated.

the reporter should have also said that the garbage kids watch on his nedtwork and others doesn't help make kids smart either, they broadcast mindless nindcompoop t.v. shows, if they were so concerned they would show educational programs at least for one hour a day

I am guessing your stations are commercial
If so , you need an institution like the BBC that " can afford" to act in a more considered and concerned way . I believe the BBC Charter talks about the mission , " to inform , educate and entertain "

You really don't want to know the ins and outs of British rhyming slang but seeing as you asked
Septic = septic tank = yank
= full of sh1t
If you don't think you will like the answer don't ask the question ;)

Which BBC Radio stations do you listen to ?
Radios three and four are outstanding but three will be a total non event if classical Music is not a central part of your life .
Radio Four would receive my vote for Station of the World , particularly if you include the World Servie programme which uses the same frequency during the night .
If you catch Radio 4 Monday evening at 18.30 our time , and its repeat on Sunday mid day our time , you will find programmes that showboat British humour perfectly . Small example .

No, I knew what the answer would be. I just wanted to see you spell it out for us. As has been already stated here, ad hominem attacks, whether aimed at an individual or a nation, are the province of the intellecutally deficient or unprepared. Thank you for making that point, yet again.

Responsibility for network content lies squarely at the feet of those who seem to have forgotten that the power button is a toggle. Not only does it turn the television on, it turns it off.
IMO abuse of television is a major cause of the decline in literacy in this country and any parent using it as a nanny gets what they deserve - handicapped children.

I am like minded .
However , there( !) is a generation emerging -- supported by some academics and supposed experts ,----that believe the "Old" way is restricting and irrelevant in this age of new communication options .
It worries me though that Frank's children will have to learn bastardised English ( Emerican) , listen to Mexican and Russian accents , grapple with KKK dialect and find time to ignore all precepts of grammar and punctuation .
That seems to be cruel and even negligent .

Try that again using kids who have been
"home schooled" and see what happens.
Guess which side of the political spectrum
here does most of the home schooling?
