How many here have donated blood to their local blood transfusion centre ?

Are you for it or against it or indifferent about it ?

I am a volunteer blood donor for some years now.

As we say, you don't give your blood, just 10 minutes of your time to help someone.:)

Does playing hockey count?:)

Seriously, I have donated blood in the past to the local blood-drive, and I will again whenever it's needed.

I gave my blood few times, but because i am allways ill after, don't do more. Sure i'll give in an emergency to anybody (to some not with pleasure).
But never received.

I was a blood donor for many years, also plasma. A few years ago I was disqualified.

I suspect they were afraid my madness was catching.

Yes to both. I have given blood on many occasions and unfortunately needed blood during a major operation 2 years ago.

As a side issue, red blood cells last for 42 days, platelets last for 5 days and plasma can be frozen for up to a year, so it is important that people donate on a regular basis.

I felt I had to raise my charge and , shortsightedly , the authorities declined , claiming my blood group was only one in a billion anyhow .

You wouldn't faint. It's fun. When you give plasma they hook you up to a centrifuge and you can make it go faster or slower by playing with your blood pressure. It helps to pass the time...:)

I understand authorities stopped accepting Hoopy's blood when they found it was green in soccer season.
