A friend just sent me a text to say "I'm watching it (Eurovision) and it's shit"...

I replied "It's Eurovision...it's supposed to be!" That's what makes it so entertaining... :)

Ireland was a surprise for me... Unusual for them to choose a 'rock' song... Pretty good though...

I liked Poland for some reason... :whistle2:

Oh...and I don't know what Nat (the Presenter) has done with her hair tonight... I don't think I will take her on a date now... :(

Overall, I think the 1st semi was better...

And...though this may not be the best time to say it...I happen to think that the UK's entry is being over-hyped and is overrated... Not really worthy of a top 3 finish imho...

However, all that hype may well 'push the right buttons'...especially with them touring it around Europe for the past few weeks...pressing palms, lining pockets etc, etc... ;)

I am still not watching it, and will not, but I have just read in the morning newspaper that PATRICIA KAAS is participating. I think das ist das - she is the winner, and she is the best. All other singers can do whatever they want, but I doubt anybody could be compared to her. Waste of time! They'd better go home to their countries and do something really valuable!
What should I dial to vote for her???

Cameramen are working

I saw one on a wheel mashine in news but can't find a vidio with him. It was cool.

Its called a ''Steady Cam'' It costs about 100,000 dollars And operates like a Gyro system such as if I am running it will remain steady. Anytime you see a actor walking towards you the camera operator is backing up using the steady cam. We have been using them for years in major motion pictures and Videos! Great toy. When I worked on the John Grisham Movie with Tom Cruise ''The Firm'' I watched the camera man one day and on break I asked him if I could put it on and try it. His Answer was ''No Fu*king way''

The guy behind the camera man is called the ''Cable puller'' this is what I do sometimes. But this camera is wireless and operatoring on a transmission signal.....

http://themovieblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/red-steady-cam.jpg

But if you have a extra 14 dollars and can follow instructions you can make a homemade one to keep your video still while you are on the move. I plan to make me one when I get a decent Video Camera

It's not just Europe's starlets that have been congregating in Moscow for the Eurovision Song Contest - professionals of a completely different kind have come to town to profit from the party.

The contest, which kicked off in Moscow on May 6, has created new business opportunities for all kinds of fraudsters. Hapless foreign visitors could be taken for a ride by unofficial "official" taxis for 500 roubles a kilometre, buy Eurovision tickets at 100 times their face value, or in the worst case scenario, purchase fake tickets worth nothing at all.

Just last week, the city police's organised crime unit detained four group leaders illegally selling Eurovision tickets. "The touts tried to sell tickets near [the contest's main venue] Olimpiisky Sports Centre for 10,000 to 20,000 roubles," RIA Novosti quoted the unit's spokesperson Irina Volk as saying last week. "However, the actual retail price of the tickets they were selling was from 300 roubles to 6,000 roubles, and the sellers had several batches of tickets."

Eurovision tickets went on sale on March 16, but even before that, in early February, there were reported attempts to sell fake tickets to those unaware of the date for the beginning of official sales. To avoid scalping of tickets at higher prices, they were sold in small batches on a daily basis. Ticket sales were restricted to four per person.

Tickets for two semi-finals sold for between 800 roubles and 2,000 roubles, while those for the final are officially selling for between 1,000 roubles and 30,000 roubles.

Soon after tickets went on sale, the police's economic crime department issued a warning about possible attempts to sell fake tickets.

In late April, transport police detained an Armenian citizen at Kazansky Station, who was trying to sell more than 100 fake Eurovision tickets and had allegedly already sold more than 200 fakes, a transport police spokesperson told RIA Novosti. According to police, the detainee was charging around 2,000 roubles per ticket and had already raked in some 600,000 roubles. He was picked up after one of the buyers realized that the tickets he had purchased were not authentic. The scam artist was selling fake tickets created using a colour photocopier.

Eurovision organizers have boasted that genuine tickets possess safety features equal to those found on some currency notes, with such defences as being printed on inflammable paper and having colour holograms.

The Armenian ticket scammer is facing grand fraud charges that could lead to up to six years in jail. Meanwhile, the touts selling authentic tickets would only face administrative charges for conducting entrepreneurial activities without a license and for selling goods at places not designated for it, which is punishable only by fine, Volk said, adding that if the resellers were caught again they could be punished more severely.

Meanwhile, it remains unclear if taxi drivers displaying the Eurovision logo and charging foreign tourists exorbitant fares could be punished.

Last week, the contest's organizers issued a statement warning foreign participants, guests and journalists about taxi drivers unofficially using the contest's logo on their cars.

"Their cars carry signs saying that they are the contest's ‘official transport' or ‘official taxi', and their drivers are charging unrealistically high fares of more than 500 roubles per kilometre," read the statement. "But they have no relation to Eurovision 2009 whatsoever."

The contest's organizers said that a 10-minute taxi ride within the city centre shouldn't cost more than 350 roubles and suggested that guests primarily use the metro or official shuttle buses for travelling between the city's main hotels, Olimpiisky and the Manezh exhibition hall, where Eurodom, the contest's public events centre, is located.

Tea and cakes could be the last-minute way to avoid trouble at Saturday's banned gay rights march, just hours ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest final.

Visiting British activist Peter Tatchell, who was badly beaten at a gay pride march on Tverskaya Ulitsa in 2007, has offered an open invitation to anti-gay Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov to meet and discuss their differences.

"We are not seeking confrontation," Tatchell said by telephone from London on Wednesday, before flying to Moscow. "I would ask Mayor Luzhkov to meet me and a delegation of Russian gay campaigners. We are seeking cooperation and an amicable solution. Dialogue with the mayor would be useful. I'm sure we can sort out these issues over a cup of tea and a cake at City Hall."

Beneath Tatchell's friendly approach, though, lies an iron will to change attitudes in what he calls "probably the most homophobic country in Europe", especially with the high-camp kitsch of Eurovision attracting thousands of lesbian and gay visitors to Moscow this weekend.

Tatchell added: "Given that the world's media will be in Moscow for the Eurovision Song Contest it would be a PR disaster for the authorities if they banned the parade, especially if marchers were arrested and beaten up. It would do untold damage to Russia's public image around the world.

"On the other hand, if they allow the march to go ahead then there will be no fuss and the mayor will win plaudits for his magnanimity and generosity."

Luzhkov was aware of the activists' request, but had refused to meet with them, an employee at City Hall's press office said by telephone on Thursday.

Sergei Tsoi, a City Hall spokesman, told reporters last week that the march, scheduled for Saturday noon in Alexandrovsky Sad, should not go ahead and would not be sanctioned by the authorities.

"The Moscow government is declaring that there has never been and never will be a gay parade in Moscow," he said. He went on to accuse marchers of "destroying the moral foundations of our society" and said plans for protestors to gather without permission "threatened the lives and security of Muscovites and guests to the capital".

Tsoi said that the authorities' position was backed by the Russian Orthodox Church, youth and veterans' groups and multi-cultural societies, warning that any unauthorised parade would be broken up by police.

Moscow-based march organiser Nikolai Alexeyev claimed that 500 activists were ready to attend a legitimate rally, but still expects at least 100 protesters to defy the ban and risk arrest to make their point.

That could have a knock-on effect for the glitzy Eurovision final at the Olimpiisky Stadium across town. Dutch singer Gordon Heukenroth, frontman of the group The Toppers, has vowed he will refuse to perform if the Gay Pride march is met with violence.

But he hoped not to have to carry out his threat. "After being one week in Moscow and experiencing the wonderful hospitality of the Russian people we all cannot believe that anything bad will happen during Gay Pride," Heukenroth told Dutch broadcaster NOS. "The Eurovision Song Contest is known to be an international event of love and happiness. We all have to cherish this message [for] the next couple of days."

Tatchell dismissed claims that the planned march was simply a publicity stunt, insisting that it was an essential tool to break down prejudice.

"The Russian government won't listen to polite letters and won't talk to gay campaigners, so protest is the only option," he said. "Visibility helps break down prejudice by showing that gay Russians are just like any other Russians except they happen to love someone of the same sex. There's a need for gay protests while gays face huge scale of homophobic prejudice and discrimination, blackmail and harassment."

Tatchell's assessment was backed up by a recent report from human rights campaigners the Moscow Helsinki Group, which found that Russia's gay and lesbian community faced serious prejudice, particularly at work.

In addition to highlighting problems with homophobia in society, the report also said the authorities displayed a "tolerant attitude towards manifestations of this discrimination", which contribute to "the legitimisation of an ideology of neo-Nazism and religious fundamentalism".

A clear majority of people questioned on Pushkinskaya Ploshchad this week said they were against discrimination against lesbians and gay men, but were divided along age lines, with younger Muscovites more in favour of tolerance than their older counterparts. Here's what they had to say:

Elena, 59: Gay parade organizers are provocateurs who wish to enforce our state, our society and all our country to accept their unholy values. They want to break us, to destroy us spiritually. It is a real terror, not against the body but against the soul. How could we accept that the same streets which our fathers and grandfathers marched on Victory Parade in May 1945, this year will run absolutely another parade? Many Orthodox organisations and all those who value our memory, our glory and our country, say no to gay parades.

Tatyana, 30: I hate these mentally ugly creatures - you can't see if it's a man or a woman. Terrible, but these people are very sick. And unfortunately this infection is spreading.

Ruslan, 20: OK, even today there are people alive who won the World War. A couple of those men definitely should be gay. So if they come to the gay parade, will Luzhkov send them away? Freedom must be for everyone. Otherwise I am gay and our officials are fags.

Vyacheslav, 27: In our society gays are deprived of the chance to be themselves, to openly show their feelings. When you try to hug or kiss your boyfriend, the reaction of people around will very quickly change your romantic mood. On one hand, society blames gays for constantly seeking sex and often changing partners, but on the other hand, it does everything to deprive us of the possibility to lead a normal life, driving us underground. We want to walk the streets hand in hand with our partners, to hug each other as other couples do. Gays as well as other guys and girls would like to listen to a concert or watch a movie embracing each other. Parents are ready to accept a girl as their son's wife, but if a guy has a non-standard orientation, he can lose his right even to his room where he lived all his life, not speaking about any help.

Maxim, 23: All changes are for the better. Earlier, about 16 years ago there was an article in the Criminal Code for buggery. Now we have clubs, radio, magazines and the Internet at long last.

Vadim, 28: At the age of 15 we were not as teenagers nowadays. I think it is easier for them now. And for us it was easier than for the previous generation. If I had to live in a Soviet period, when gays were put in jail or sent to the Gulag, I would not accept myself as gay, but also would not become straight. I can hardly imagine such an awful life.

Natasha, 24: I personally am absolutely OK with them. They have chosen this way and even if it is a terrible sin, the only judge for them is God. Though of course I don't like them arranging any parade, that's definitely showy, but in general they are people too. Everyone has a right for a private life if it does not threaten life of the other person.

Masha, 19: I think that each person has their own private life. Different strokes for different folks. I don't understand why so many people hate them. For example, a paedophile is ripe for the gallows, but leave alone gays. Only the parades are too much. Gays are not bad, it's only their attitude I don't like. And another thing: Pretty girls are actually very kissable. I tried it and I support gay women on that.

Nina, 44: I don't care as long as I'm not concerned. It's their life. Sometimes I regret my traditional orientation as from all my acquaintances only gay people are happy with their private lives.

Stanislav, 22: The more gays there are, the more chances straight guys have with girls.

Anton, 30: I absolutely don't care. It's just one person loving another person, and sex is minor here. The female body in every aspect seems more beautiful, and there is nothing bad if you love it more than male. One chooses his way for himself, it's a sin to judge.

Sveta, 25: Remember Coelho's book "Veronika decides to die"? There's a moment when Veronika is ashamed of masturbating and her friend comforts her. She says something like: nothing is forbidden or sinful in sex, except forcing someone to do something or sleeping with children. Anything else is good.

Marina, 25: I have a couple of gay friends. Besides them being true friends it's so cool to discuss boys with them. It was proven long ago that the toughest homophobes calling for "strict measures" are latent homosexuals. With such behaviour they try to suppress their latent tendencies and prove they are straight. A normal self-assured man is not afraid of that and usually doesn't care. Aggression comes from fear.

Ok, I will see what I can do for you. :)

Ok, everybody should send 03 to 7715 after they whistle! I am watching The Chase (1966) with Redford, so please let me know - I will be checking this thread constantly. Thank you who still can hear me...

Oh! Of all the participants she is obviously the best, and it goes without saying. All other singers came to make a better decoration for her... Though I have not seen and have not herad any :lol::lol:

Well, Guys -
I am not a distinguished musical critic, but I will tell you one thing though... I happened to hear this Norvegian singer last night (while there was a commercial on my channel), and he did not impress me at all. Just another boy from the Star Academy, or just another conveyor star...
How come he received more votes than Patricia???
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
That's why I never watch such contests.

I must say the first time i saw that Norway guy in semi-final - i decided i will wish he wins. I really like his song, that he wrote by himself, his style to perfomance and ofcourse violine... That all really impressed me and in my mind i still have this very sweet melody. Congratulations NORWAY. This victory is really deserved and we could see like nearly all countries gave him highest points, so it means that the result is rather objective. 2,3,4,5 awards were fighting and changed oftenly, but only FIRST AWARD of Norway was constant! One more time my congratulations to Norway and Alexander :peace::peace:

Its called a ''Steady Cam'' It costs about 100,000 dollars And operates like a Gyro system such as if I am running it will remain steady. Anytime you see a actor walking towards you the camera operator is backing up using the steady cam. We have been using them for years in major motion pictures and Videos! Great toy. When I worked on the John Grisham Movie with Tom Cruise ''The Firm'' I watched the camera man one day and on break I asked him if I could put it on and try it. His Answer was ''No Fu*king way''

The production was very bad. They abused of long traveling crane camera and stedycam and they show just a few short shots. But the worst was they censored Dita Von Teese show. Pitty. Very Pitty.

Don't worry Abra Pat is really perfect, just Eurovision isn't for her, not her place, she is already fame.
Think Rybak isn't best singer may even there, but really he is very nice, with his song and story.
Congratulations Norwayyyyyy!!! and Belarus tooo!!!

Been trying to work out why the Norwegian song won so convincingly. I closed my eyes and listened to the song. This is my conclusion -

1. It comes across as a children's nursery rhyme to music.

2. The singer doesn't have a particularly good voice.

3. The strings are good.

4. The hook (chorus) is rather cheesey and standard. Nothing new or technically clever there.

So I reckon he won it on personality, his boyish front-of-camera appeal, and the fact that he wrote the song himself thus giving it a personal feel.

Question - would you buy a CD of the song without the visual impact to help it? (I certainly wouldn't.)

My arrogant friends say.. Eurovision is a contest for... housewives ;)
Well.. perhaps.. I wouldn't mind being that housewife.. sitting on the sofa , watching it.. ;) drinking hot tea with milk choco..
Anyway, I had no possibility to watch it that time as I should attend a conference in Tallinn during those days..
But that song was everywhere: in the streets, in small cafès, in the salt and humid air, that air, whose specific scent always reminds me something intangible.. the smell of my far childhood maybe..
There's something enchanting in it.. a kind of pagan magic.. primary animal magnetism..
and it keeps sounding in me..
:)

Rändajad" (English Translation: Nomads) is a song by the Estonian band Urban Symphony, composed by Sven Lohmus, and represented Estonia at the Eurovision 2009
