View Full Version : For NON-Americans - What are the issues in your country?
Voobrazheniye

I posed this question, a bit, in my thread about issues of importance to Americans.
But I really am curious to know what issues are important in other countries. Everyone has concerns about jobs, economy, environment, war, neighboring countries, immigration, emmigration, cost of living... etc.
So what are the main issues of concern these days in YOUR country!! And what is your government doing about it?

The biggest problem in the UK right now finding an Indian restaurant that can do a decent curry.
It's a national disaster don't you know.

I think the biggest problem here is corruption and lack of trust in the government, if this was to be fix then many of the other problems would be corrected....I read this on the internet this morning.
In September the Fund of Assistance to Entrepreneurship Development and Market Economy presented results of a poll, conducted among 1,000 entrepreneurs in the framework of the project "Improvement of entrepreneurial environment in Azerbaijan", supported by the International Center of Private Entrepreneurship.
"Over 40% of entrepreneurs intend to expand their activity, 51.5% consider it impossible to engage in business without bypassing law in Azerbaijan, over 30% do not consider themselves secured from lawlessness of officials. By results of the poll, almost 50% of entrepreneurs are visited by a representative of state bodies, especially the Ministry of Taxes, once a month".
About 2/3 of respondents refused to answer the question about the unfounded inspections and claims. Respondents did not stress any serious problems in the process of receiving a license, yet 2/3 of 476 people refused to answer the question about the expenses for its obtainment.

Really - but how come Russia is the largest country in terms of land area when Britain is just a small island? Are you going to give all that land back to the Bashkirs, Buryats, Evenks, etc etc?

russia never destroyed nations which either joined it themselves or were joined by force. even this "by force" is not quite correct 'cause there were different movements within those nations, some were for being with russia, some against. rusia helped to win those who supported it :)
all of the nations living in russia had their culture, language, schools, newspapers, etc. in the soviet times national regions were ruled by locals - represantatives of this nationality. of course there were objective and subjecitve diferences in different regions. but russia didn't place any nation in reservation
what was always suprising me is that how such a small nation as english could not only conquer half of the world but also settle its people there. where did u take so many people to accomodate them in the colonies and not to empty british isles? british men must have been very productive ... some 400 years ago :)

cinema. do we have cinema? like we used to have? when every year there were hundreds of movies, cinemas were full of people and w had our cinema not just cheap movies trying to copy holliwwod. "cheap" i mean quality not money invested. i don't even talk about tv serials, they r terrible, play of actors is terrible. that's why maybe soviet movies r still so popular. nothing decent offered instead.

Homeless animals. this is really serious for russia, at least where i live.
so many homeless dogs and cats, noone takes care of them.
ecology. i want to see more trees in the towns, wild nature protected, rivers clean.
maybe it's problem everywhere.
i would ban hunting, circuses and zoos. i would support wild parks protected by the state where animals live in the natural environment.

The problem with stray (homeless) animals here in Kharkov is terrible too. The biggest problem is dogs - there are stray dogs everywhere, and they get into fights, run in packs, and can really be a nuisance. Sometimes they are even more than a nuisance... they can be dangerous.
There are stray cats too, but you don't see them as much... that's just how cats are. But when I spent some time in Sevastopol, I did see a lot more stray cats.
I understand that the stray animal problem is widespread in Ukraine. It's really terrible to see this, as an animal lover. But there are higher priority issues here that are not being addressed, so one can't expect the stray animal problem to be solved anytime soon.

i don't expect that the state is going to do anything for them but what differs us from europe is that in europe people realize it is not human to teat animals that way.
if one politician took one homeless animal to his house it would help to solve this issue.
if government controlled who and how buy animals and how they treat them later,
if business with producing dogs of certain breed was controlled,
if all people who have animals were registered and were taking responsiblity for their animals i think it would help.
i also think that there should be special service to take care of homeless dogs and cats, not to kill them but to take care, to create shelter, to make neccessary injections, etc.

True. But people who think it's ok to hit pedestrians with their cars - even when they have the green light - because they are "in a hurry" and pedestrians are just a bothersome obstacle, certainly are not going to have any compassion for stray animals.

It's a pity you did not learn whilst you sat out your ban .
Does it not occur to you that things like those I wrote about Keenan's cats would not be tolerated for one minute by him or Admin if meant other than in fun .
You are without any shadow of doubt the person with the least developed insight and sense of humour I have met on this Forum and by some distance .
If you simply cannot appreciate our sense of humour and intellectual sparring , you might consider how your mind could be broadened instead of repeating a non point which increasingly highlights your own failing.
Anbother running joke is the " Canada sucks " routine which , if pressed , I would heartedly agree is not PC . But it is people like you who quickly convince us that maybe there is more than a smidgin of truth .
From over here you do come across as the man who loves to repeatedly slip and fall on his own discarded banana skins .

This is an very simple example of an issue in which citizens, rather than government, can successfully address a problem. As with our Humane Society, employing only volunteers and private donations, it is possible to create a service to care for homeless pets and to spay or neuter the animals before releasing them for adoption to worthy families. At the same time, these people lobby for laws to require responsible care of pets. They educate the public on such care as well as the importance of controlling their animals' ability to breed.
