The poll also needs to include authoritarian or libertarian for both left, centre and right wings
I don't fit into the categories it includes

Far right of course... not afraid of taking a stance on what I believe is right, to many people just go with the flow not to make any waves...

Its interesting to see how people veiw thier political stances in this time of uncertainty. But no matter where on the spectrum you are I will go to my grave believing that which we agree on far outweighs that which divides us

I have never had a problem identifying myself as "mostly conservative," but you have to understand what that means relative to the whole. Someone who is far left would consider anyone who has a "conservative" position on even one issue to be a "far right whacko." Similarly, someone way to the right will cringe if you hold some liberal views.
I take it issue by issue and look at things based on my own moral compass. Naturally, we tend to be consistent on most issues, based on this compass, but not always. Relegion often tends to pull us toward a particular viewpoint that encompasses almost everything. And an extreme aversion to religion can do the same.
I am not a Christian, but I certainly support some Christian values. Mostly, I belive in personal responsibility and that government should mostly get out of the way of the people. My point of view is largely Libertarian, but neither of the major U.S. political parties have any room for libertarians, because true libertarianism does not support big government, and establishment politicians (even Republicans) love big government and the power and money it brings.
At one point in my life, I was a Democrat. When I matured, I became a Republican. When the Republican party disappointed me so badly (Bush), I dropped all party affiliation. I have toyed with the idea of joining the Libertarian Party, but it has no power to really affect any change.
So... I am to the right of "center" only when all my positions on various issues are taken as a whole. But going issue by issue, I may be more to the left or more to the right. On some, I might be quite far to the left or the right. In reality, I think most people are this way if they are not swayed by party affiliations or other reasons for acting like sheep.
It might be more interesting to look at where we stand on particular issues. That could be a VERY entertaining thread.

I am a big fan of "Freedom of choice" and "decentralising of power and influence". If a street wants independence, let 'em have it.
So I guess I am a libertarian in some aspects. Maybe I should become a buddhist.

Actually, Dan, you cannot be a wackoo. The far ends of either political spectrum are generally populated by people who take such extreme positions based on emotion - usually fear and hate - and who can't back up those positions with knowledge, information and reason. This is why they are easily categorized as wackos, crackpots, loons, crazies, etc.
People can say what they will about you or your positions on issues, but no one can say legitimately that you don't take a reasoned approach or that you don't back yourself up in a reasoned and informed way!:yo:

Does being conservative or liberal mean the same thing in every country? For example, is a conservative American the same as being French Conservative?

In France when you mean liberal it's mostly at an economical point of view, so the liberals are at left of political chess game, like conservatives in US.
From this Zarkossi is classified both as a neoliberal and so a neoconservative.

Ayn Rand is my hero
Hoopy can charge whatever he wants for his fridge, no one can take it just because they need it.
If he spills his beer, he has to clean it up. If he gets drunk and drops his fridge on somebody's foot, he can't have any more beer.
And he can have sex with three kangaroos, so long as they are willing and I don't have to watch.

By the way... no problem about spilling beer from Hoopy's fridge... the damn tightwad is trying to sell it with NO BEER inside.

Small question. Just what do you have to do to go from far right/left wing to whacko? My guess is that there isn't much difference, especially if viewed from someone on the other 'wing'.

Without realisaing it you and others are exhibiting hysteria once again .
If we praise your meat soup , the Russian soul , Pushkin , Rachmaninov and Isanbayeva , we are nice OK western guys .
If we question anything which falls outside the views given to you , we are brain washed .
This form of blackmail and emotional clap trap is unacceptable
I shall be asking Admin /Moderator to examine this area as it represents bad manners and an attempt to bully and intimidate on a regular basis .
We try to make allowances of age , background and culture but I am getting sick of young Russian women working like a pack and using insults and ill considered emotional responses instead of reason and considered response .
It was amusing at first but as far as I am concerned it represents the worst and most unproductive type of communication possible .
I left the Forum for 12 days for this reason and this reason only .
I have returned because several people contacted me and effectively asked me to reconsider .They did this even though they often disagree with the things I say and the conclusions I draw .
If we cannot get a productive relationship and Admin is happy , I shall request a lively and revised Political sub-section which will only accept under 40's by personal invitation .
That would not represent an ideal solution because we should be finding ways to get on together and not ways of keeping us apart to keep the peace .
