Herr Mannelig (Or: Herr Mannerlig) is a medieval Swedish ballad that tells the story of a desperate mountain troll who wishes to become human. The troll believes that by marrying Sir Mannelig (Herr Mannelig) she would become a human. She showers him with gifts but he perpetually refuses her, especially considering her lack of Christianity.(from wikipedia)

Haggard - Her Mannelig
RlyIRty0xnQ

All'alba, prima che il sole sorgesse [At dawn before the sun arised]
E gli uccelli cantassero la canzone [And the birds sang their song]
La donna del troll con la lingua falsa [The woman of the troll with the false tongue]
Ed ingannevole propose al signore: [And deceptive voice proposed the gentleman]

Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig mi vorrei sposare [Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig will you want to marry me]
Per tutto quello che io ti darn? [For all that I will give you?]
Se vorrai, rispondi solo si o no [If you want to, just say yes or no]
Farai cose o no? [Will you do it or not?]

Ti darn i dodici mulini [I will give you the twelve mills]
Che stanno tra Tillo e Terno [That are between Tillo and Terno]
Le macine sono fatte del piu rosso rame [The grinders are made of the most red copper]
E le ruote sono cariche d'argento [And the wheels are loaded with silver]

Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig mi vorrai sposare [Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig will you want to marry me]
Per tutto quello che io ti darn? [For all that I will give you?]
Se vorrai, rispondi solo si o no [If you want to, just say yes or no]
Farai cose o no? [Will you do it or not?]

Se tu fossi una donna cristiana [If you were a Christian woman]
Riceverei volentieri regali cose, [I would gladly receive gifts]
Ma io so che sei il peggiore troll [But I know that you are the worst troll]
Figlio degli spiriti maligni [Son of the malignant spirits]

Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig mi vorrai sposare [Herr Mannelig, Herr Mannelig will you want to marry me]
Per tutto quello che io ti darn? [For all that I will give you?]
Se vorrai, rispondi solo si o no [If you want to, just say yes or no]
Farai cose o no? [Will you do it or not?]

ancient swedish

Bittida en morgon innan solen upprann
Innan foglarna började sjunga
Bergatroliet Friade till fager ungersven
Hon hade en falskeliger tunga

Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
För det jåg bjuder sa gerna
I kunnen vål svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej

Eder vill jåg gifva de gångare tolf
Som gå uti rosendelunde
Aldrig har det varit nagen sadel uppa dem
Ej heller betsel uti munnen

Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig

Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
För det jåg bjuder sa gerna
I kunnen vål svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej

Bergatrollet ut plå dörren sprang
Hon rister och jämrar sig svåra
Hade jag fått den fager ungersven
Så hade jåg mistat min plåga

Herr Mannelig herr Mannelig trolofven i mig
För det jåg bjuder sa gerna
I kunnen vål svara endast ja eller nej
Om i viljen eller ej

Early one morning before the sun did rise
And the birds sang their sweet song
The mountain troll proposed to the fair squire
She had a false deceitful tongue

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

To you I will give the twelve great steeds
That graze in a shady grove
Never has a saddle been mounted on their backs
Nor had a bit in their mouths

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

Gifts such as these I would gladly receive
If you were a Christian woman
But I know you are the worst mountain troll
From the spawn of Necken and the devil

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

The mountain troll ran out the door
She wailed and she shrieked so loudly
Had I gotten that handsome squire
From my torment I would be free now"

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

Sir Mannelig, Sir Mannelig won`t you marry me
For all that I`ll gladly give you
You may answer only yes or no
Will you do so or no

This song is one of fantasy and a mid-evil feeling that paints the vision in your mind and takes you far away into another time and another place

Singer is Ronnie James Dio

One day, in the year of the fox
Came a time remembered well,
When the strong young man of the rising sun
Heard the tolling of the great black bell.
One day in the year of the fox,
When the bell began to ring,
It meant the time had come for one to go
To the temple of the king.

There in the middle of the circle he stands,
Searching, seeking.
With just one touch of his trembling hand,
The answer will be found.
Daylight waits while the old man sings,
Heaven help me!
And then like the rush of a thousand wings,
It shines upon the one.
And the day has just begun.

One day in the year of the fox
Came a time remembered well,
When the strong young man of the rising sun
Heard the tolling of the great black bell.
One day in the year of the fox,
When the bell began to sing
It meant the time had come for the one to go
To the temple of the king.

There in the middle of the people he stands,
Seeing, feeling.
With just a wave of the strong right hand, hes gone
To the temple of the king.

Far from the circle, at the edge of the world,
Hes hoping, wondering.
Thinking back on the stories hes heard of
What hes going to see.
There, in the middle of a circle it lies.
Heaven help me!
Then all could see by the shine in his eyes
The answer had been found.

Back with the people in the circle he stands,
Giving, feeling.
With just one touch of a strong right hand, they know
Of the temple and the king.

I also used it in my Journey to Kiev Ukraine. And this is my interpretation of that Trip

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

From the first day I saw her
I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face

On the second day I brought her a flower
She's more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"

On the second day he came with a single red rose
He said: "Give me your loss and your sorrow"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
"If I show you the roses, will you follow?

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her
Where the wild roses grow
She lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye,
Said "All beauty must die"
And I lent down and planted
A rose tween her teeth

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

Most of Dio's lyrics deal with magic, mid evil times and sorcery. This has to be one of my all time favs when he preformed Lady Evil live with Black Sabbath, Enjoy and turn it up!

Theres a place just south of witches valley
Where they say the wind wont blow
And they only speak in whispers of a name
Theres a lady they say who feeds the darkness
It eats right from her hand
With a crying shout shell search you out
And freeze you where you stand

Lady evil, evil
Shes a magical, mystical woman
Lady evil, evil in my mind
Shes queen of the night
All right!

In a place just south of witches valley
Where they say the rain wont fall
Thunder cracks the sky, it makes you bleed
Theres a lady they say who needs the darkness
She cant face the light
With an awful shout, shell find you out
And have you before the night

Lady evil, evil
Shes a magical, mystical woman
Lady evil, evil on my mind
Shes queen of the night

So if you ever get to witches valley
Dont dream or close your eyes
And never trust your shadow in the dark
cause theres a lady I know who takes your vision
And turns it all around
The things you see are what youll be, lost and never found

Lady evil, evil
Shes a magical, mystical woman
Lady evil, evil on my mind
Shes queen of the night

Gonna do you right!

Shes the queen of sin

Look out, shell pull you in!

Lady wonder!

Apocalyptica - Farewell ** Poem: "Funeral Blues" - W.H. Auden

73ufwrT_Ov4

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Don't know if this is exactly what you mean't but this song tells the story of how the Scottish language is now almost lost.
