British Intelligence Services have been successfully using Abba music to soften Putin's psychopathic tendencies . A brilliant campaign has converted his wife and her circle of friends to Abba hits and the tremendous film Mama Mia . Now the rooms of the White House regularly showcase , SuperTrouper and Money , Money ,Money , with Vlad the Bad a secret convert and huge fan .
Apparently it is huge fun to put on Dancing Queen and then deride Sarkozy or Merkel , dependent on mood .
For me it has rather taken the gloss away from the World's greatest Pop Group and I now find myself listening to the Bee Gees much more often .

President Dmitry Medvedev has made no secret of his affinity for British hard-rock band Deep Purple. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, it seems, prefers the cheery tunes of 1970s pop sensation ABBA.

Putin took a few hours off from dealing with the financial crisis late last month to dance to hits like "Money, Money, Money" performed by the ABBA tribute band BjЪrn Again in a private concert for the prime minister and a group of friends, organizers of the show told The Moscow Times.

"Putin and his colleague friends were all dancing and getting involved with the choreography," BjЪrn Again founder and creator Rod Stephen said in a telephone interview from London.

Putin and the others waved their hands in the air during a rousing rendition of the Swedish group's "Super Trouper" and pointed their fingers during "Mama Mia," Stephen said.

The Jan. 22 show took place in a concert hall at a Kremlin residence near Valdai Lake, in the northwestern Novgorod region, said Stephen, whose band charged ?20,000 ($29,000) for the performance.

A source involved in the concert said it was organized by the Kremlin for Putin but that no state funds were used in arranging the show.

"ABBA is popular, and [Putin] likes them," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. The source declined to say how much money the concert had cost to arrange.

Wealthy Russian businessmen have become famous for paying millions of dollars to fly in pop stars such as George Michael, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera for lavish concerts.

But politicians have also gotten in on the act. In January 2008, Medvedev attended a private concert played by former Deep Purple guitarist Joe Lynn Turner, who was put up in the five-star Baltschug Kempinski Hotel and presented with an expensive Swiss watch after the show.

BjЪrn Again's reception was more austere.

The quartet and their crew spent a total of 16 hours on the road driving between Domodedovo Airport and Valdai Lake and were put up in basic accommodations at the Kremlin residence, Stephen said. No one from the small audience came to thank the group afterward, he added.

While Putin and his entourage actively danced, there was little interaction between the group and the audience, Stephen said.

This was largely because of a gauze curtain hanging in front of the stage and preventing the performers from clearing seeing who was in the audience, Stephen said, calling the cloth precaution "quite bizarre."

"They could tell that they were enjoying it," said Stephen, adding that the audience danced for most of the hour-long show.

Requests to speak to members of the band were rejected. Stephen said in e-mailed comments that the members were worried about being misquoted.

Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said he knew nothing about the concert.

Stephen said he first thought that it was a prank call when someone rang him up "out of the blue going this is the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia, we want BjЪrn Again for a concert."

"I really thought someone was sending me up," Stephen said. "I was having a bit of a laugh to myself, but then it struck me: 'Oh, you know, this is a genuine inquiry.'"

Vladimir Putin revealed as secret Abba fan

Only nine people were at the gig, an operation so cloak and dagger that net curtains were erected between the stage and the seating to protect the privacy of Mr Putin and a female companion.

In what could deal a fatal blow to his hardman image, the politician belted out the lyrics to Honey Honey and danced with Kremlin officials to Super Trouper, as Kalashnikov-wielding guards patrolled the building.

Details emerged for the first time yesterday about the show which took place in the snowbound resort of Lake Valdai, nine hours outside Moscow, on January 22.

Bjorn Again's founder, Rod Stephens, recalled: "I got a phone call before Christmas. The voice on the end of the phone said, 'Kremlin... Russia... Moscow... we want your band'. I could tell that he was translating someone else's words. I thought it was someone in the band winding me up and told them to send me an email."

The offer, however, was deadly serious. The four band members and their crew flew to Moscow, where they were taken on a nine hour coach journey to the mystery location.

Jennifer Robb, who performs as Anni-Frid, said: "We arrived at a building which looked like a big stronghold with metal security gates. We had to put all our belongings through an X-ray machine. They took us to a guest house for the night and the next day we were taken for lunch at a canteen full of security guards and soldiers. The security was very tight and there were cameras everywhere. At one point I went outside to get some fresh air and there was a man with a machine gun who said something in Russian and made it very clear that I wasn't allowed to wander anywhere on my own.

"The room where we performed had a stage with three sofas in front of it. That was it. Two of the sofas had white net curtains in front of them. The prime minister was sitting behind one of the curtains with a woman who was wearing a long, cream dress. She had short, fair hair. The prime minister was wearing a tuxedo and bow tie. The others were all men and wearing tuxedos too. They must have been security people.

"The prime minister didn't stand but he and his wife, or whoever it was, were jigging about on the sofa and singing the words to Honey Honey. All his officials were singing away and doing a finger-pointing dance. They really got into it, even though there were only nine of them. At the end, the prime minister shouted 'bravo, bravo' and gave us great applause."

The running order included singalong hits Waterloo, Money, Money, Money, Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia. Miss Robb said: "It was the most bizarre gig I have ever done. At first it was a little scary and we did feel a bit vulnerable at times because we didn't know where we were, but in the end it was an amazing experience and definitely one to tell the grandchildren."

After a breakfast of beetroot, they were escorted back to the airport. Mr Putin paid £20,000 for the hour-long show. "I wish I'd asked for twice as much now," Mr Stephens said.

The identity of Mr Putin's companion is unknown. Last year he denied reports of a divorce from his wife, Lyudmila, or a romance with gymnast Alina Kabaeva. His love of kitsch music was signposed in a recent television interview when he declared himself a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest and the show tunes of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Amazing .
He gets some positive spin and then cannot see the wood for the trees .
Now he is getting everyone to lie on his behalf and deny there even was a concert .
No wonder the guy will drown this year .
Of course he may secretly prefer James Blunt .

Vladimir Putin's spokesman has denied that the prime minister attended a private concert by an ABBA tribute band.

But members of the Bjorn Again band gave plenty of details and said they recognized Putin at the Jan. 22 gig on the shores of Lake Valdai.

The revelations that Putin could be a closet ABBA fan run counter to his traditional strongman image.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied on Friday that Putin attended any such party on or around Jan. 22, adding, "Neither Mr. Putin nor his apparatus ordered any band of this kind."

"I have no doubt that he likes some music of ABBA," Peskov said. "But he simply wasn't there."

ABBA was one of the best-loved foreign bands during Soviet times, and the Swedish quartet even traveled to Moscow to perform in the Kremlin.

Bjorn Again member Aileen McLaughlin said the band traveled 320 kilometers north of Moscow to Lake Valdai to perform before an audience of eight people -- Putin, an unidentified blond woman and six other men in tuxedoes. McLaughlin said the audience -- comfortably seated on three sofas -- appeared to enjoy the concert.

"They were clapping and swaying, and putting their fingers in the air, that kind of thing," McLaughlin said. "He [Putin] had good rhythm. He was shouting 'Bravo, Bravo!' after the songs."

A lace curtain separated the band from the elite audience for the hour-long, high-security show, but McLaughlin said at one point the spotlight flashed on the audience and band members saw Putin. McLaughlin described the lone woman as a blonde who was "wearing a long, cream, really pretty dress." Putin's wife, Lyudmila, has blond hair, but they are rarely seen together anymore.

The show was organized by Moscow-based agency SAV Entertainment, said Bjorn Again founder Rod Stephen.

A woman at SAV Entertainment denied that the agency had anything to do with the event. "We are telling everyone that such a concert never took place. We are denying it," she said, refusing to give her name.

Stephen told CNN: "I've had phone calls from the agency saying, 'Don't talk to anyone else. We are getting grief from the Kremlin.' But there was no nondisclosure contract."

Love the humour .
But if you do not know already , it is a newspper which is really a comic for adults .
I would never buy it and would still not read it even if I was given it free .
It really is a ghastly daily paper and whilst we cannot dictate what other people do , it is sad that 4 million people read nonsense and Celebrity crap every day .
