You may not know it, but you have a third eyelid. Pull open the two more noticeable eyelids and take a look -- it's located right in the corner by the tear duct. This small third eyelid is left over from what's known as a "nictitating membrane," which is still present in full form in some animals including chickens, lizards and sharks.

9. Body hair
No doubt we were once hairier. Up until about 3 million years ago, we were covered with body hair. But by the time Homo erectus arrived, the ability to sweat meant we could shed our woolly ways.

8. Sinuses
Doctors don't really know much about sinuses -- only that we have a lot of them. Possibilities for their function range from insulating our eyes to changing the pitch and tone of our voice.

7. Adenoids
Adenoids trap bacteria, but they're also prone to swelling and infection. Just ask any 7-year-old. Luckily, our adenoids shrink with age and are often removed, along with ...

6. Tonsils
Also prone to swelling and infection. If you still have them when you reach your 30s, it's almost an accomplishment.

5. Coccyx
More useful as a game-winning Scrabble word than as part of the anatomy, the coccyx or tailbone, is made up of several fused vertebrae left over from the olden days when we had tails.

4. Arrector pili
When we were hairier (see No. 9), the arrector pili made the hairs stand on end when we needed to appear bigger and scarier. Now, it just gives us goose bumps.

3. Wisdom teeth
Back in the day, when we ate mammoth meat off the bone and didn't floss afterward, our teeth tended to fall out. Therefore, when those reserve molars, aka "wisdom teeth," came in, they were welcomed. Nowadays, fluoride and dental plans have made them just a huge pain.

2. Appendix
Darwin claimed the appendix was useful for digestion during our early plant-eating years; it's dwindled down to little since we started eating more digestible foods.

That is what the online translator says that means, and it makes no sense at all.

Hello and a big hug to scientific research amators from "DISPROOF PARTY" :becky:
Our slogan is: "Come here, we disprove all your theses!" ( Even irrefutable :becky:)
From the very beginning:

1. I am a bit late.. a snow_flake was the first .. exactly, men's nipples are the women's tongues sharpener. Bravo, Snow and do join the party!:)

2.Darwin claimed also Homo sapiens is of monkey derivation, so what??

3.Wisdom teeth are the best wisdom indicator.. Otherwise how comes we differentiate wise people from stupid ones?? Or recognize mammoth amongst Homo sapience nowadays??

4. Musculus arrector pili
"when we were harier.." Past grammatical tense misleads a reader to a certain delusion. Otherwise all depilatory creams never ever would be a matter claiming females' attention:becky:

5. Coccyx
Tails are an integral part of some moderm human beings. Otherwise how could we recognize witches??? Read "Withches" thread here on Forum and do ask girls posted it whether they would be so kind to clarify the subject.

6-7. If something is swelling.. a finger for example.. is there a necessity to provide a resection either??

8. Sinuses and cosinuses ie sine and cosine would be the next theme.. Who had an idea of making those "sinuses" placed inside a human cranium.. Oh mum!

9. look pont 4.

10. A third eyelid is an inetersting matter to discuss.. I wonder if it has any relation to a "third eye".. as most likely some of our Forum mates has it , so, let's ask them then..
Strange, I've been observing myself in front of mirrow 3 hours or so.. and didn't find any third eyelid..neither in reduced form nor in full .. What to do???

Dear elane-ellie,

this article was not taken from the scientific site and doesn't have any official medical referals. I could endlessly pontificate about one part or another; however, it wasn't my aim. I should place this topic in the Humor and Jokes instead; you're right there are a lot of medical mistakes.

and didn't find any third eyelid..neither in reduced form nor in full
Hahaha, I cannot help here , 'cause I sure don't have one ; maybe we should ask Buddhists?

All the best

I was writing letter to a friend and sympathasized to her by saying "So sorry, your grandma has a toothless mouth now". Who knew that this phrase has a different meaning. No wonder she didn't reply. .OMG:eek:
