One of the most beautiful songs ever written is Je T'aimais, Je T'aime, Je T'Aimerais by Francis Cabrel. Check it out yourself and you'll be introduced to a magnificent songwriter.

Sorry to deceive you, but Francisca Brel is not the daughter of Jacques Brel.
I think he is a little bit one of the so many ridiculous french singers with Johnny Hallyday, Lara fabian, Claude François, Mireille Matthieu( top one )etc.... But i suppose for someone not understanding entirely the lyrics, sounds perhaps exotic.

we write: Joe Dassin, Mireille Matthieu , for Patricia Kaas it's ok.
I think they have more fans abroad than in France.

It is a long while ago I'd like to talk about this woman, a Woman amongst women. I hope, you wouldn't mind me not opening a new thread and writing about her here in spite of she was not "French" but Egyptian-Italian-born, she was known as naturalized French singer and she lived most of her adult life in France.
Dalida Yolanda Cristina Morisse (née Gigliotti).

She had enormous career success. But her personal life was never an example of great happiness.
She died as a result of an overdose of barbiturates, leaving a note: "Life has become unbearable ... Forgive me."
And I cannot even imagine French music culture without "J'attendrai"

No humour in it... ;) all of us are insane in certain sence and in some degree ;)
But that song, "Je suis malade", demands a man's vocal, in my opinion. At least, I prefere it that way.

Much more appreciated than Dalida or Lama, even if not a genious.
Frenchies born in north african colonies are named "pieds noirs", black feet.
Nevertheless thank you to participate at development of french culture.

They say, French music critics are easily excitable, ;) and they get really excited about artists who carry on traditional forms of music.
The Female French singer Zaz (Isabelle Geffroy) is one such artist, and her debut is a self-titled album of Jazz Manouche and Chanson Française.
Her first single, “Je Veux,” is really good in my opinion, although I’m not that great Gypsy Jazz fan, but I’ve qiute liked Zaz’s song :)
