Everyone is different when they make the decision to write to someone here hoping to develop a relationship with them that will blossom into love between each other and marriage.
I look for women that are very beautiful initially. It is because if desire is present desire will remain. There are few things more tradgic than living everyday with someone you are not attracted to. It will unjustly and needlessly hurt and persecute that other innocent person. The prevention to this is just not to accept less than you know you will be satisfied with and also happy with. I want the woman I am with to move me, motivate me about her, and spark a storm of passion and joy within me. There is nothing worse than to live with someone that is cold and distant to you socially and intimately. I know this and lived for many years under those circumstance. It was a horendous, miserable like gasping for air before drowning. Don't do it it will kill you.
Imagine making a nice dinner or doing something wonderful and nice for your mate and having them never notice it or compliment you. Imaginge saying I love you to someone and hearing from them " I know " as you watch them walk away from you. Imagine approaching your man in something sexy and having him just ignore your efforts to share yourself with him or vice versa. It is needless and preventable.
There is a middle ground in everything. I don't need a Jessica Alba but I don't need someone I don't feel anything for sparkless emotion about them.
Is this all there is to finding someone for life ? Of course not and there are other areas of compatibility that have to be considered and that are necessary to develop a long lasting and happy life with someone. All are a must and have to be considered. One thing also is; what can you lift. We often imagine we can carry more than we are capable of carrying. Yes I can carry a woman with three children for a short time but not a long time and I realize this about myself realistically. So whom is best for me is someone with one child or no child. That's not because I do not like children because I adore them. But because I love and adore them I also care about them and there well being. Taking care of three or more children is a huge responsibility requiring a great deal of financial security. I don't have that much to support three children properly. I am realistic about this for their well-being.
My life here is mainly solitude and I am facing my forth Thanksgiving and Christmas alone again. It is tough but it is life and I cannot accept and neglect a woman for the sake of my own loineliness and solitude accepting someone I know and feel beforehand I am not attracted to. Sorry; she deserves much better.
I am a wonderful man and I will be very wonderful, loving and caring to a very beautiful smart woman that realizes these things in me. Faithfulness and devotion is dependendent upon desire and satisfaction of the person in your life. You can't make yourself desire someone just as you cannot make yourself really like anchovies on a pizza. You either have this desire because they elicit it withing you spontaneously or you simply don't have it .

Cecilia, I don't think Jim intended his comment the way you took it. In fact, I think Jim would agree with you and was posting in defense of women and against the sentiment at the beginning of this thread about someone wanting just "beautiful women."

The question about whether she is still beautiful when the makeup comes off refers - in my opinion - to inner beauty. Is she - or he - truly a beautiful person? Or just an attractive shell containing shallowness and uglines? And as you said, if a person is truly beautiful, then this beauty exists - and can be seen by a reasonable person - no mattter if there is makeup or not, fancy clothes or not, money or not... or a full head of hair, or not.

If the essense of a person is shallow, self-centered, filled with personal issues and neuroses, and just generally "ugly," then this will show through even the best makeup. It's the people who look ONLY at the attractive shell who constantly miss the ugliness on the inside (and pass by the beauty if the shell is not so perfect). Then they can't understand why they can never find someone to love them.

I've known Jim on this forum for a number of years now, and he's always seemed to be a sincere guy - one of the best guys here - so I really think you misunderstood his comment.

I've been here a long time and I have seen and experienced many write, values and opinions.
I have something for all of you that you probably already know about relationships but may need refreshing. In life there will be many friends and very few true loves. Idealy only one that will last a lifetime; doubtful be possible.
When someone says no or says goodbye stop taking it as rejection or that you're not good enough for them. It's not why they can't stay with you or accept you into their life. It is because they just like you are seeking certain things that are critically important to them and their life and future. Being happy and content with whom your with potentially forever are two of those things.
So when someone say I can't or no; you can accept this as normal life in the process of finding a mate or you can go on a tangent being vengenful, make things hard for this person, trying to make their life miserable, invade thier privacy, scour to dig up dirt about them to discredit them in the eyes of others, and do everything you can to make their life hell if you want. Sounds like a lot of work for nothing to me because even if all of those things are successful the bottom line is; your still without them and they still won't love you. You've only satisfied your own vengeful ambitions and created another person in the world filled with hate.

When someone says no to me because I'm too old for them, or I'm not rich enough I don't get angry about it, I just go on and keep looking. I don't have their love but they don't have mine either; mutual loss.
